Article by Peter S. Scholtes

One of the more concentrated outpourings of creativity in town, this comic-book art opening doubles as a release party for an unusual item: a limited edition, beautifully designed box of miniature homemade comics from some 50 local artists titled Lutefisk Sushi, now in its fourth volume. The fun is that no one, artists included, knows quite what will be inside: Each contributes his or her (often hilarious, provocative, and moving) mini-comics and opens up the results with everyone else. Coordinators, including Big Time Attic and the International Cartoonist Conspiracy, present a reception at Altered Esthetics from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, August 6. The show continues in the gallery through August 26, with a panel discussion by participating artists on Saturday, August 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Lutefisk Sushi mini-comic

Part 2

Here's a mini-comic done specifically for the local Lutefisk Sushi box-collection. I wish I'd spent more time on it, but it has some cool ideas and scenes.

Snow Fell at Dusk

This story was done, in under a week, as criteria for a portfolio. The rules were to use a robot, a snowman, the ocean and myself as story elements. All things, by the way, that I would Never use in a comic (well, except for the ocean). Still, I liked doing it and it made the end result different from my other stuff, in a good way.

Presentiment

Finally, a new story. The best one yet, as I feel like I'm really learning to ink well

New Short Story

Please check out the complete 8-page comic short 'Arlo May' posted in the column to your right, above the archive entries. This piece was done for an anthology entitled Struktur about a mass of people living within a single large building which they never venture out of, for unknown reasons. I'm told it will supposedly appear there at some point, but why wait? You can read it now.
